Dr. Shah’s Laser Eye Institute has pioneered in Optometry in Thane District. Optometry is a primary health care profession in eye care. The major role of Optometrists is to firstly collect correct eye complaints of patient and then evaluate the eyes, diagnose diseases, and manage visual disorders by prescribing spectacles, contact lenses, low visual devices, and eye exercises under the guidance of an Ophthalmologist (Eye Doctor).
It is highly recommended that one should get regular eye examination which can help to reveal systemic conditions like Hypertension (Blood pressure), Anemia, Diabetes or Cholesterol. Optometrists make a diagnosis and refer the patients to the respective specialists for further care and management. They also co-manage conditions with ophthalmologists and other health care professionals.
About our Optometry College:
Dr. Shah’s Laser Eye Institute (college of optometry) was established in the year 2010, by Dr. Shah’s charitable Trust, in Kalyan, Thane district as 2 Years Diploma Program in Ophthalmic Technician assistant (DOTA) which was affiliated with YCMOU, Nashik. In 2012 our college of optometry launched a 4 Years B.Sc. Optometry Degree course. In 2016 we started 1-year Diploma Course in Ophthalmic Technician (DOT) which is affiliated to Maharashtra Board (MSBVEE).
The prime objective of the trust is to develop human resources for rendering eye care services to growing ophthalmic and optometric professions. Since its establishment, the College has been offering these courses to students at almost zero fees so that they can purse their carrier in Optometry in future. College has achieved many milestones to its credit by actively involving in research activities, community eye health and offering specialized services in optometry.
College is proud to train more than 100 students in above courses and also offer them campus
recruitment after their completion of course. These students are also encouraged by our college for further education.
1. Bachelor in Optometry (B.Sc. Optometry): Eligibility Criteria: Std. 12 th Science with minimum of 60% marks in PCB or PCM & minimum 50%
marks in English.
2. Certificate Course in Ophthalmic Technician: Affiliated to Maharashtra State board. Eligibility Criteria: Successfully completed Std. 10th any stream
